Cape Coral welcomed the first baby of 2012 at 5:46 p.m., on New Year’s Day, a happy and healthy little girl named Carly Deroache.
It’s the second child for Corey Deroache, 23, and Ariana Brown, 21, of North Fort Myers. They also have a son, Cameron Deroache, who is 2 years old.
Carly weighed 6 pounds, 4 ounces when she was born.
“She looked perfect and beautiful,” Brown said. “And she’s perfect for us.”
Brown is a Cape Coral native, while Deroache was born in Pennsylvania.
Neither were expecting to have another child, but news of Carly’s arrival was a blessing, Brown said.
The family of four plans on staying in North Fort Myers, which means that both Cameron and his new baby sister Carly will be both born and raised in Southwest Florida.
Brown said Cameron was having a little trouble adjusting to the presence of his new baby sister, but all that will work itself out in time, she said.
“He likes her but doesn’t know how to take her,” she said. “He doesn’t know how to handle my attention being focused completely on her.”
Going through labor was a lot easier this time, Brown said. The pain was the same, of course, but she knew what to expect going in.
Doctors were going to induce labor Jan. 4, but nature took it course and Brown went into labor around 5 a.m. on New Year’s Day. She was in labor for 12 hours.
“I had a feeling it was going to happen before the fourth,” she said. “I handled the pain a lot better but I still didn’t do very well.”
Mother and daughter were home from Cape Coral Monday night and mom was pretty exhausted. A quick check-up sent the family back to the hospital on Tuesday, but Carly is healthy and ready to start growing up.
“She’s perfect,” Brown reiterated.
