CROSS COUNTRY

Bishop Verot had three runners in the top 10 Saturday as the Vikings won the boys state Class 2A cross country championship at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

Andrew Marino was third in 15:59.6, Zachary Zielke fifth in 16:03.5 and Dennis Olsen 10th in 16:24.7.

Verot finished with 65 points, outdistancing second-place Jacksonville Bolles by 24 points.

Also for the Vikings, Zachary Engel was 19th and Rafael Casillas 39th.

The first runner across the line was Bolles’ Parker Adams with a time of 15:24.6.

Truman Wiedner of Oasis was 60th in 17:20.2.

Jazlyn Forbes of Oasis finished fourth in the Class 2A girls race. Forbes finished in 18:21.4. Right behind her was Mackenzie De Lisle of Bishop Verot with a time of 18:37.1.

The Class 2A state girls champion was Margaret Bartlow of North Bay Haven, crossing the line in 17:56.2.

Oasis was 18th and Bishop Verot 25th in the team scoring.

In Class 3A boys, Angel Cruz of Mariner was eighth, finishing in 15:50.0. Fellow Tritons runner Dylan Macias-Buenrostro came in 32nd.

Cape Coral was 26th in team scoring, led by Nazayer Franco in 62nd place.

State champion Marcelo Mantecon of Belen Jesuit Prep posted a time of 14:57.8

North Fort Myers was 26th in Class 3A girls. Top finisher for the Red Knights was Skyla Stevens in 92nd place.

Fort Myers’ Masha Doroveev was the 3A girls champion in a time of 18:05.5.
