Adult educational programs offered at Edison and Ford Winter Estates

Throughout the year, Edison and Ford Winter Estates offers numerous educational programs for adults. Participants can learn new skills in painting, floral arranging, gardening or brush up on their history knowledge. Estates’ members receive a discount on all programs.

Registration is open for the following upcoming classes. Except where noted, registration is required at EdisonFord.org.

Silk Scarf Painting Class

Saturday, Nov. 2, 9 a.m.

Local artist Marie Dyer will teach how to paint a silk scarf. The completed scarf can be worn or hung as a piece of artwork. All materials are included in the fee. No experience is needed. Registration is required. Cost: members: $90; non-members: $100

Garden Talk: Grow a Tropical Tea Garden

Saturday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m.

This program will explore tropical herbs and edible plants, how to pair flavors and highlight scents to create hot and cold tea brews for different seasons. Early registration is not available for this program; participants can sign up the morning of the talk. Cost: members: $15; non-members: $20

Gardening Class: Palm “Reading”

Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1:30 p.m.

In this class, Karen Maxwell, horticulture specialist, will provide the tools to guide your selection of appropriate palm species for your garden or yard. The physiology of palms, their unique care and how to care for them will be covered. In addition to classroom time, the discussion will continue with a tour of Edison’s extensive palm collection. Participants will each receive a copy of the teaching materials covered in class, as well as a 20% discount coupon good toward plants in the Garden Shoppe. Class will be held at the Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council building on Larchmont Avenue (across from the Estates’ overflow parking lots). Advance registration is required. Cost: members: $45; non-members: $60

Acrylic Landscape Painting Class

Saturday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m.

Local impressionistic artist Marie Dyer will cover the fundamentals of composition and structure, creating mood, mixing paints and will assist in developing a pallet. Participants will be inspired by the lush surroundings of the Estates. No experience is needed. All materials are included. Registration is required. Cost: members: $90; non-members: $100

Floral Arrangement Class

Sunday, Nov. 17, 10 a.m.

Floral designer Anita Singh will guide participants through this hands-on workshop to select and arrange fall flowers for a unique centerpiece. She will cover how to incorporate elements and colors that evoke the warmth and joy of the Thanksgiving season. All flowers and materials will be provided. No experience is needed. Advance registration is required. Cost: members: $75; non-members: $85

Digital Discussions

In this online program, participants will learn about numerous topics in history and the people who were associated with Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. The discussions are free and conducted on Zoom. See the website calendar for upcoming dates and topics. Registration is required at EdisonFord.org.

Yoga by the River

Mondays & Wednesdays, 10-11 a.m.

A yoga class is offered each Monday and Wednesday. The class is held outdoors, along the river at the Estates. All skill levels welcome. Class is taught by Bonnie D’Angelo, a certified yoga instructor. Participants should bring a yoga mat, water and towel. Cost: Edison Ford members: $15; non-members: $20 per class (Registration is not required; tickets may be purchased online or at the ticket counter).
