City announces temporary closure of Chiquita Lock for FEMA inspection
The city of Cape Coral will temporarily close the Chiquita Lock to all boat traffic for a required FEMA inspection, beginning on Oct. 20.
The lock will remain closed for approximately five days and is expected to reopen on Oct. 25, barring any unforeseen circumstances, officials said in a release issued today.
“The closure is necessary to dewater the lock for the inspection, which is scheduled to take place on October 22 and 23. The lock will be closed two days prior to and after the inspection to allow for proper preparation and restoration,” the release states.
“The City appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during this period and encourages boaters to plan accordingly. Updates will be posted on the City’s website and social media channels as they become available.”
Message boards posted at the lock will have a message similar to the following:

• Reason: FEMA inspection
• Details: Chiquita Lock will be closed to all boat traffic for dewatering and inspection.
