Two arrested in suspected armed robbery at Pine Island Road Lowe’s
Two people suspected in the armed robbery of the Lowe’s on Pine Island Road in Cape Coral are in custody after being arrested hours later at a Circle K following a tip from the public.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, Charlie Jorge Perez and Jalina Analise Sepulveda wore Cookie Monster pajama bottoms and matching t-shirts when they tried to leave the Lowe’s with merchandise they did not pay for.
The pair were approached near the exit by two Lowe’s loss prevention officers and asked to empty their bags. According to the Lowe’s loss prevention officers Perez then lifted up his shirt, revealing a handgun in his waistband and said, “What are you going to do about this?”
As the pair left the store, Sepulveda allegedly spit at the loss prevention officers.
Surveillance images of the suspects were released and published on social media. Several tips were called in identifying the suspects as Perez and Sepulveda. Photo lineups were shown to the loss prevention officers, who immediately picked out both suspects and positively identified them as the pair who stole from the store earlier.
Fast forward almost 12 hours, a tip was called in saying both Perez and Sepulveda were at the Circle K at 935 Country Club Blvd. in Cape Coral at 12:49 a.m. Cape officers arrived and arrested Perez and Sepulveda.
According to the CCPD, during a post-Miranda interview, Perez said “the whole thing was a misunderstanding and he only lifted his shirt while at Lowe’s to show the employee that he did not steal anything” and that he “was going to contact the police in the morning to explain his side of the story.”
Based on the investigation, both defendants were then taken to the Lee County Jail.
Perez is charged with robbery with a firearm and Sepulveda is charged with principle in the robbery with a firearm as well as battery.
