Experience the cut-throat and hilarious underworld of a restaurant reservationist in ‘Fully Committed’ at Florida Rep
In Becky Mode’s one-act play, one versatile actor unleashes 40 wild characters before your eyes
Florida Repertory Theatre will present “Fully Committed,” a hilarious one-man, one-act play by Becky Mode, playing in the ArtStage Studio Theatre Dec. 10 through Jan. 12. Tickets start at $67 and may be purchased online at FloridaRep.org or by calling the box office at 239-332-4488 or toll-free at 877-787-8053.
In “Fully Committed,” 40 wild characters are unleashed in a devastatingly funny one-man, one-act play. The story follows a day in the life of out-of-work actor, Sam, who mans the red-hot reservation line at Manhattan’s #1 restaurant. There, Sam navigates bribes and intimidation from desperate callers who will stop at nothing to score a table. Meanwhile, Sam’s vying for a juicy role in a Lincoln Center production, and his lonely, widowed dad wants him to come home for the holidays.
Becky Mode’s fiercely funny play made Broadway buzz in 2016 when “Modern Family” actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson portrayed Sam. The play continues to be a hot dish in regional theaters around the country with a variety of actors taking on the challenging role.
“Audiences are in for a wild ride with tour-de-force actor, Kraig Swartz, who has played Sam many times with absolutely hilarious results,” said producing artistic director Greg Longenhagen. “Kraig also won a Barrymore Award – Philadelphia’s Tony – for his portrayal of Sam at the Philadelphia Theatre Company, so audiences are in for a treat.
Swartz returns to Florida Rep after appearing as Miss Tracy Mills in last season’s production of “The Legend of Georgia McBride” and previously in “Visiting Mr. Green.” Swartz has been nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his off-Broadway performances and earned multiple Barrymore Awards for his regional theatre work. He has also appeared on television’s “SNL,” and in the film, “World and Time Enough.”
Florida Rep’s production of “Fully Committed” will be directed by Gus Kaikkonen who returns after directing “Dinner with Friends” in 2001. He is joined by an expert creative team including set designer Dennis C. Maulden (“Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors”), costume designer Amanda Miller (“Beauty and the Beast” Conservatory), sound designer Braden Downing (“Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd”), lighting designer Eli Carnahan (“On Golden Pond”), and stage manager Artie D’Alessio (“Ben Butler”).
“Fully Committed” is sponsored by Capone’s Coal Fired Pizza, Downtown Social House, Izzy’s Fish & Oyster, Firestone Grill Room & Skybar, Cabos Cantina, and The Lodge, with media sponsorship by Gulfshore Life.
Single ticket prices for “Fully Committed” are $67 for regular performances from Dec. 13 through Jan. 12 with discounted preview performances on Dec. 10 through 12 starting at $49. Student tickets are available for $15. Please note that the production includes some profanity.
Curtain times are 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with 2 p.m. matinees on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and 8 p.m. for the opening night performance on Friday, Dec. 13. There are no performances from Dec. 23 through 25. Florida Rep’s parking lot opens two hours before each performance and offers guests free parking across the street from the Arcade Theatre.
