CRA code enforcement make get boost
The city of Cape Coral is considering allocating a code enforcement officer to the South Cape to better control blight.
The agreement between the city and the CRA is on Wednesday’s Cape Coral City Council agenda for consideration.
It would provide one code enforcement officer for patrolling coverage of the CRA.
According to the agreement, the CRA would reimburse the city for actual costs and expenses.
The measure is expected to pass as Council also acts as the CRA’s board of commissioners.
Wednesday’s Council meeting also will include a public hearing concerning a planned development project for Cape Christian Fellowship.
Ordinance 87-24 would amend Ordinance 21-13 to grant a new buildout period for the project, as it expired on April 29, 2023. The lag is due to COVID-19 and Hurricane Ian.
If approved, the extension for the buildout period would be for an additional 10 years. Future improvements that have not been constructed yet include a 32,000-square-foot worship building, a 10,000-square-foot office building, a 4,000-square-foot maintenance building, additional paved parking, and site improvements.
In addition, a public hearing for transmittal for ordinance 78-24 is also on the agenda – amending the Future Land Use Map from Commercial Activity enter to Burnt Store Road District. The city-initiated future land use map amendment is for 1,141 acres in northwest Cape Coral. This would place the “future land use on properties along Burnt Store Road north of Van Buren Parkway,” according to agenda documents.
This would help establish a mixed-use classification that would include retail, office, office/warehouse, light manufacturing, institutional, residential within mixed use buildings, larger scale commercial retail and government uses. The residential uses are up to 25 units/are and non-residential development is a floor area ratio of 1.0. In addition, standalone storage uses and residential development is prohibited.
If Council adopts this plan, a new zoning district would take place for the Burnt Store Road area.
The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, in City Council chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd.
The meeting is open to the public.
