After six months of renovations, Marquee Cinemas in Cape Coral has completed the interior upgrades and a few days away from finishing the exterior.

Marketing Director Robin Shumate said last week that Marquee Cinemas was an older theater and with the changing of times they felt that reserved seating with an upscale look were good changes for the location.

The renovations were done in three phases, in order to keep the theater open. The first phase occurred in auditoriums one through five and the second phase renovated auditorium six through 10.

The auditoriums were completely gutted, so new risers could be incorporated into the space for the stadium seating. Shumate said this had to take place because the new seating was much larger and they needed extra space between the rows for the reclining seats.

“We probably lost close to 48 percent of our seats,” she said.

The auditoriums now have leather, over-sized, electric powered recliner seats, which have roomy armrests with cupholders and elevated footrests. There is also new carpet in the auditoriums.

“We converted to reserved seating. That is a huge change for us. It is more convenient and easier for customers,” she said of tickets that can be purchased online, or at the theater. “You can go and reserve your seat and not rush to get back to the theater. (You) can reserve the exact seat that you want. It makes it convenient and nice.”

Marquee Cinemas also received new paint on all the walls in the hallway leading to the auditoriums.

The lobby also received a facelift with new carpet and paint, and the bathrooms were renovated.

The colors used inside the theater are that of brick reds, grays, blacks and golden yellow.

“It was a big change. It is really nice. It will look like a totally different place,” Shumate said.

She said that they would be finishing the outside this week. She said it was completely renovated for a more modern contemporary look.

Shumate said the renovated Marquee Cinemas offers a great experience.

“The new upgrades will offer patrons a premium experience not currently offered in the market. We want the newly renovated Marquee Cinemas to be a welcome retreat for guests to relax and feel right at home as they enjoy a movie,” she said.
